How to contribute

Those entities or persons that wish to participate in the Board of Directors of the Trust should state their interest through a written request addressed to the FONAG Technical Secretary.

Participation in the Board, with the right to vote, will be established when the interested party, through the signing of an agreement, accepts the obligation of providing an economic contribution to the institutional equity of the Fund. This contribution is estimated as a percentage of the income obtained by the users of water, equivalent to 1% of the values generated in the varying degrees of consumption of the resource.

Likewise, those entities and persons that do not require water in their management activities, productive or service processes, as well as those that in using water, do not transform or affect its quality, can make a voluntary contribution.

Another alternative to join the Fund is by becoming a guest member and as such, these persons or institutions may agree to co-finance projects of interest for the Fund.
In all these cases, potable water consumption in the city of Quito is not taken into consideration, inasmuch as EMAAP-Q is an important contributor.

Project Funding
All activities being funded by FONAG must have a co-financing component in different proportions, according to the interest of their execution. Projects must:

  • Contribute clearly and directly to the protection of water sources.
  • Be compatible with management plans for protected areas.
  • Encourage active participation of local communities.
  • Obtain the permits required by Law.
  • Comply with FONAG regulations and investment priorities; and,
  • Be implemented by legally constituted and capable entities.
Institutional Development
The institutional strengthening of FONAG is another of the tasks of the Technical Secretariat and of the institutions that comprise the Fund. For this purpose, the participation of institutions that introduce priority project initiatives for the protection of water resources is required. The support of experts with experience in natural resource management, conservation of water sources and basins, planning of water resources, forestation and similar activities is also needed, to consolidate a pool of professional advisors, program designers, supervisors and executors of plans and projects related to our activities.
