The menu of financial services is directed to investment donations, and in a second phase, investment loans to implement and formulate conservation projects in water basins. The resources of the Fund are destined to:

  • Research: Relative to the ecological dynamic nature of the basins, its areas of influence and species.
  • Land titling: Supports legalization of land tenure.
  • Surveillance and control programs: To avoid hunting, fishing and the burning of moorlands.
  • Hydrological protection measures: execution of works to avoid deterioration of basins due to human intervention.
  • Assessment of environmental services: Physical and economic information to assign a value to water.
  • Sustainable productive systems: Environmentally friendly activities.
  • Education and training: To reduce pressure upon natural ecosystems.
  • Evaluation and monitoring systems: To assure that FONAG meets its objectives.

For the implementation of these programs, the Technical Secretariat strives to incorporate the main users of water so that they may participate in the planning, implementation, and funding of projects of mutual interest. FONAG also works in its institutional strengthening, in order to replicate this initiative at a national level.
