FONAG RECEIVES AN IMPORTANT DONATION FROM ESRI PDF Print E-mail
ESRI (The Environmental Systems Research Institute) donated to FONAG software and technical issues related to the design and utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
This software will be used as a basic support of the FONAG’s Integrated Water Management System for the Guayllabamba Watershed, which is currently under development. Additionally, this System will be based on a web platform and it will cover the FONAG´s zones of intervention, located inside and in the surroundings of the Guayllabamba Watershed.
The main objective of this System is both to design and to implement a management tool that can be used by the whole set of stakeholders that belong to the Guayllabamba Watershed. They will be able to count with standard and actualized hydro-meteorological information in such a system that allows them to make proper decisions related the management of water resources in this Basin.
Currently, this System is being designed by a company called NewVi Solutions and will start to be tested, on line, by the next November.
This important donation took place with the help of several people and institutions as the following: Charles Covins from the ESRI´s Conservation Program; Marcelo Guevara from TNC; Galo Calderón from INDESIS (Representative of ESRI in Ecuador); among others.
It is important to mention that the design and implementation of the System is financed as a part of the component “Hydrologic Monitoring” from the Cooperative Agreement No 518-A-00-07-00056-00 signed between FONAG and USAID.
