Sin embargo, el reemplazo de bosques nativos por plantaciones, bien sean de car\u00e1cter productivo o con fines de conservaci\u00f3n-protecci\u00f3n, ha generado tres principales debates: el efecto sobre la biodiversidad, los suelos y los recursos h\u00eddricos (Cavelier et al., 1999).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"EOP SCXW164503907 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW106695398 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW106695398 BCX0\">En el \u00e1mbito geogr\u00e1fico del FONAG, al 2025, existen 8530,21 ha con plantaciones forestales comerciales, mientras que, a nivel de \u00e1reas de inter\u00e9s h\u00eddrico 3832,95 ha.\u00a0 Las plantaciones forestales son una superficie arbolada que se obtiene de forma artificial por plantaci\u00f3n de especies nativas o ex\u00f3ticas, que tienen los mismos a\u00f1os de vida y presentan una separaci\u00f3n homog\u00e9nea. Por ejemplo, entre los siglos XVII y XIX surgi\u00f3 la idea que el eucalipto agota el agua del suelo cuando su cultivo se utiliz\u00f3 para reducir la salinidad del suelo mediante \u00e1reas inundadas en pa\u00edses de Europa, \u00c1frica y Oriente Medio (<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW199935724 BCX0\">Teketay<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW199935724 BCX0\">, 2000, Dessie y Erkossa, 2024, Zerga et al., 2021; citado por Medeiros et al., 2025).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW199935724 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW199935724 BCX0\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\">Los efectos hidrol\u00f3gicos de las especies ex\u00f3ticas como el pino y el eucalipto han sido ampliamente documentados, sin embargo, estos<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\">no son uniformes en todos los contextos<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\">. (2007), estudiaron el impacto de la forestaci\u00f3n con<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW254849595 BCX0\">Pinus<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW254849595 BCX0\">patula<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span>\u00a0<\/span>en el rendimiento h\u00eddrico y se compararon con la pr\u00e1ctica m\u00e1s com\u00fan de pastoreo intensivo y cultivo de papa en cuatro microcuencas de la cuenca del r\u00edo Paute en el sur del Ecuador. Los resultados indican que la forestaci\u00f3n con<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\">P.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW254849595 BCX0\">patula<\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\"><span>\u00a0<\/span>reduce el rendimiento h\u00eddrico en aproximadamente un 50%, o un promedio de 242 mm a\u00f1o -1. Una reducci\u00f3n del suministro h\u00eddrico, especialmente<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254849595 BCX0\">del caudal base como consecuencia de la forestaci\u00f3n, puede comprometer la disponibilidad y seguridad del recurso h\u00eddrico.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW254849595 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW199935724 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW199935724 BCX0\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW219246392 BCX0\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW63079398 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW63079398 BCX0\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES\" lang=\"ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW115271379 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW115271379 BCX0\">En la misma l\u00ednea, Bosch y Hewlett (1982) concluyen a partir de 94 estudios de cuencas comparativas, que las plantaciones de pino y eucalipto causan en promedio una reducci\u00f3n de 40 mm en escorrent\u00eda anual por cada 10% de cambio en cobertura respecto a pastos, mientras que, la reducci\u00f3n causada por bosques templados de madera dura es menor, 25 mm en promedio.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"ES-ES\" lang=\"ES-ES\" class=\"TextRun SCXW115271379 BCX0\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW115271379 BCX0\">Uno de los mecanismos m\u00e1s importantes que explican estos cambios es la evapotranspiraci\u00f3n. El consumo de agua reduce la cantidad de agua disponible para la escorrent\u00eda y la recarga de acu\u00edferos.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW115271379 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Estos resultados confirman el papel de la cobertura vegetal en la regulaci\u00f3n del ciclo hidrol\u00f3gico y destacan la importancia de integrar sus efectos en la gesti\u00f3n de los recursos h\u00eddricos.\u00a0El Distrito Metropolitano de Quito depende de las cuencas altoandinas, cuyos ecosistemas abastecen de agua a m\u00e1s de tres millones de personas y regulan el ciclo hidrol\u00f3gico. En este contexto, en el 2025, el FONAG con el apoyo de\u00a0Nature\u00a0for\u00a0Water\u00a0\u00a0evaluaron\u00a0una Soluci\u00f3n Basada en la Naturaleza que consiste en reemplazar plantaciones de eucalipto y pino por vegetaci\u00f3n nativa en las cuencas del Pita, San Pedro y Guayllabamba Alto.
